Red Lobster Menu to Feature Winning Dish from 'The Next Food Network Star' Episode 4
America's largest seafood restaurant will offer contestant Kelsey Nixon's fresh fish entree in more than 680 restaurants ORLANDO, Fla., June 23 /PRNewswire/ -- In last night's episode of The Next Food Network Star (airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET/PT), judges selected contestant Kelsey Nixon's recipe for White Chocolate Macadamia Crusted Tilapia to be featured on Red Lobster's "Today's Fresh Fish" menu. Red Lobster Senior Executive Chef Michael LaDuke served as a guest judge and helped select Kelsey Nixon, from North Ogden, Utah, as the Episode 4 Fresh Fish Challenge winner. Last night's episode featured Iron Chef Michael Symon and Red Lobster Senior Executive Chef Michael LaDuke challenging the finalists to create unique, approachable dishes using one of Red Lobster's fresh fish species. Finalists were informed that the winning recipe would be featured on the "Today's Fresh Fish" menu at 680 Red Lobster restaurants across North America. The Food Network also told the finalists they also had to use an unusual Iron Chef-inspired ingredient, such as grape jelly, white chocolate, coffee or Fruit Loops. Kelsey's White Chocolate Macadamia Crusted Tilapia blended a buttery beurre blanc and smooth white chocolate with the crunch and nuttiness of macadamia nuts and coconut. "Kelsey's recipe is an innovative, flavorful take on simple fresh fish -- the unique ingredient combination of macadamia nuts, coconut and white chocolate is an excellent compliment to increasingly popular tilapia," said Chef LaDuke. "We are thrilled to have her winning dish on the 'Today's Fresh Fish' menu." Launched nationwide last year, "Today's Fresh Fish" offers guests five to eight fresh fish species each day at all 680 Red Lobster restaurants across North America. Guests can choose to have their fresh fish grilled and lightly seasoned, broiled and lightly seasoned, blackened with Cajun spices or grilled with a new sweet and spicy glaze. Red Lobster's "Today's Fresh Fish" menu also offers innovative chef's creations that each restaurant prepares using locally popular species, from grouper to Arctic char. In addition to favorites such as salmon, trout and tilapia, the sheets include regional species, from wall-eyed pike in the Midwest to Pacific red rockfish on the West Coast. Each day, Red Lobster restaurants print their own "Today's Fresh Fish" sheet listing the day's unique offerings. So just curious. Has anyone ventured into a local Red Lobster to sample Kelsey's dish? I wonder if Red Lobster maintained the integrity of her original recipe or if it was reformulated like dishes often were on Ultimate Recipe Showdown.
By the way, was that a limited-run series or was it cancelled? Never really seemed to take off. Wonder if any of the winning recipes are still featured at T.G.I. Friday's?
I think someone posted that they liked it in another thread but I can't remember which one. I haven't been to red lobster in a long time so I haven't had the chance.
I did try the cupcakes at Fridays. They were very good.
They are closing the one and only TGIFriday's out here. I haven't been there in over 15 years. Seeing as we have so many other independent choices, we tend to go to those over chain restaurants.
Tried it on my anniversary last Sunday! It was soooo good! However, presumably to make it more accessible for Red Lobster, they ommitted Kelsey's rice side...so you just replace it with a Red Lobster side (I chose the lobster mashed potatoes). Anyhow, the fillet is so light and flaky, I suppose that's why tillapia is so hot right now. The "beurre blanc" (sp.?) sauce was fabulous. The white chocolate (the menu claims it WAS used in the dish, as it was on the show) was not even detectable; rather, the flavors of macademia and coconut accented the butter base of the whole thing nicely. I'm going to post a little review on my own blog; does this site allow html comments? If not, I'll just give the name of it so that people can see the photo (yes, I took one!).
Oh, also wanted to reply to fiction's question regarding UR Showdown...there will be a season 2, and contestants were notified of their status in June. Looks like I wasn't one of them, 'cause I haven't received any calls from FN! Guess I should enter more than 5 recipes next time? sigh

Yes, there is going to be a season 2. I was called and I'm a semi-finalist. But haven't been called to be on the show. Does anyone know?
